Man charged with stealing 51 bottles of Grey Goose

A local man has been accused of stealing 51 bottles of Grey Goose vodka from Walmart over a period of time.

According to Iowa City police complaints, Mack Blumingburg, 20, was charged Sept. 13 with bootlegging and second-degree theft after Walmart personnel reportedly watched him steal several bottles of alcohol on five different occasions.

Blumingburg admitted to four of five recorded thefts, the complaint said. The value of the bottles equaled $1,633.02, the complaint said. Blumingburg told police he was stealing the alcohol and selling it for $20 a bottle. Some of the buyers, he said, were under the age of 21.

Second-degree theft is a Class-D felony, and bootlegging is a serious misdemeanor.
