Two Coralville residents face felony drug charges

Two Coralville residents face numerous charges after a Sept. 7 search of their vehicle allegedly yielded more than two pounds of marijuana.

According to a Coralville police complaint, Angela Townsend, 27, and Edison Ayala-Carrhigaira, who both live at 502 Fifth St. Apt. 9, were stopped for a moving violation by Coralville police at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Fifth St. in Coralville.

The complaint said officers cited Townsend, the driver, and had both Townsend and Ayala-Carrhigaira exit the vehicle. A K-9 officer brought a dog to the vehicle, which alerted on the vehicle’s trunk, according to the complaint.

The vehicle was searched, and a large amount of marijuana allegedly was located in the trunk, according to the complaint. The approximate weight of the marijuana was 2.15 pounds.

Both Townsend and Ayala-Carrhigaira are charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a Class-D felony, and failure to affix a tax stamp to a taxable substance, also a Class-D felony.
