Woman faces third-degree burglary charge

A Kalona woman has been accused of third-degree burglary after she allegedly broke into a concession stand in Lower City Park.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Ashley Diaz, 23, was charged July 21 after Iowa City police investigated a reported burglary at the concession stand, located on the north end of the park. The complaint said damage was reported to the door and frame.

Surveillance footage from inside the concession stand on July 10 showed two subjects entering the building, according to the complaint. Diaz was identified from the footage through prior contact with police. The complaint said the cameras in the building are only activated by motion inside the building that occurs after-hours.

The complaint said the items stolen included soda and candy; they were valued at less than $200.

Third-degree burglary is a Class-D felony.
