Coralville woman allegedly punches nurse

A Coralville woman has been accused of punching a nurse in the face.

Ashley Cluney, 19, was charged Aug. 15 with assault causing injury on a peace officer and disorderly conduct.

According to a University of Iowa police complaint, Cluney was in the UI Hospitals and Clinics, where her 2-month-old baby was being treated. The complaint said she was informed that her daughter was being taken into state custody, and she became angry.

Cluney started to yell and curse at the people in the room, the complaint said. When a nurse tried to calm her down, Cluney allegedly punched her in the left eye with a closed fist.

The complaint said UIHC security had to confine Cluney to a chair to prevent her from causing further injuries.

Assault causing injury on a peace officer is an aggravated misdemeanor. Disorderly conduct is a serious misdemeanor.
