The Big Ten released the brackets for this week’s conference tennis tournaments on April 29. Both the Iowa men and women will begin play on Thursday; the men will travel to Northwestern, and the women will take the courts at Ohio State.
The Hawkeye men received the No. 12-seed after a season in which they went 1-21, 0-11 in league play. They’ll face No. 5-seed Indiana, a team to which Iowa lost, 6-1, at home on April 6.
Iowa senior Will Vasos tallied the team’s only point with a win over Josh McTaggert at No. 2 singles. The Hawkeyes’ No. 1 doubles team of Garret Dunn and Michael Swank knocked off the Hoosiers’ No. 66-ranked duo of Isade Juneau and Jeremy Langer, but Iowa dropped the doubles point with losses in the other two matches.
Should Iowa win, the team will face No. 4-seed Minnesota; the Gophers beat the Hawkeyes, 6-1, on Sunday.
The women (8-14, 2-9) picked up the No. 11 seed and drew No. 6-seed Minnesota for the first round. The Hawkeyes lost their regular-season meeting with the Gophers, 6-1, on Sunday; Christina Harazin beat Minnesota’s Julia Courter in No. 4 singles for Iowa’s point.
A first-round Iowa win would pit the team against No. 3-seed Illinois.
