The Chamber Singers of IC sing for the holidays

The Chamber Singers of Iowa City will perform "A Service of Lessons and Carols" featuring songs from the group’s recently released Christmas album, On Christmas Day.

It will give a concert at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2701 Rochester Ave. Admission is free and open to the public.

The 16-track CD includes traditional holiday carols along with new arrangements of some of the group’s favorites. The CD will be available after the concert for $16.

"A Service of Lesson and Carols" will be similar to the Christmas Eve service that the church usually puts on. For this concert, the church choir will join the Chamber Singers to present readings, hymns, and carols throughout the service.

While the group will not charge admission for this particular concert, it will accept donations to go to the Crisis Center of Johnson County to help those in need for this holiday season. Donations will be accepted immediately following the holiday concert.

The Chamber Singers of Iowa City is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the choral and orchestral repertoires. In May 2012, it will celebrate its 40th anniversary as a singing group.
