The Iowa City City Council voted to disclaim interest in the Iowa City School District’s property at 509 S. Dubuque St. at a meeting Tuesday.
The School District is selling the property to the University of Iowa, and it has relocated its main office to the former Press-Citizen building, 1725 N. Dodge St. The public hearing and the vote were held to clear up a title objection from the transfer of responsibility and authority for operating schools from Iowa City government officials to the School District in 1858.
The building had served as the main office of the School District.
