The University of Iowa Mock Trial team won first place and won several awards at a competition over the weekend, according to a press release.
The program’s four teams were split between two invitational tournaments at the Case Western Reserve University Invitational and came back with 11 awards, including a first-place finish, the release said.
The release said team 1426, captained by UI senior and DI employee Will Mattessich, took first place. Team 1426 was also awarded the Spirit of AMTA Award, honoring the team that expresses the most civility throughout the tournament.
The team also brought home awards for Outstanding Witness, Outstanding Attorney.
The UI’s program is ranked 18th nationally.
