Regional flag football tournament completed

After two days of pool play, a playoff tournament, and three championship games, one men’s, one women’s, and one co-rec team came out victorious in the Regional Flag Football Championship at the Hawkeye Recreational Fields on Sunday.

The regional tournament was held in Iowa City for the sixth time in seven years, and the winners will advance to play in the national flag-football tournament at Texas A&M in early January.

Nebraska beat Augustana, 27-0, to win the nine-team men’s division. The Augustana women’s team defeated Fair Street, the team representing Iowa City in the three-team women’s division, in a 13-12 game. The Eleventh Hour, the co-rec team from Northern Iowa, pummeled Iowa City representative the Bacon Show, 46-16.

Iowa didn’t have a men’s division team because the men’s intramural flag football season isn’t over yet; the season concludes with championship games on Tuesday and Wednesday night. The regional tournament was held two weeks earlier than in years past because of Iowa football home games the next two weekends.
