The Iowa volleyball team lost, 3-0, to No. 4 Nebraska on Wednesday, (25-14, 25-14, 25-11). Iowa has lost four in a row and eight of its last nine.

The Hawkeyes (11-11, 1-8 Big Ten) were the first Iowa team to challenge the Cornhuskers (16-1, 9-0) in Big Ten competition.

The Black and Gold tallied 20 kills and hit .000; Nebraska notched 44 kills and a .302 attack percentage.

Iowa was led at the net by middle blocker Chanté Thompson’s five kills. Middle blocker Mallory Husz and outside hitters Alex Lovell and Tiffany Nilges had four spikes each.

Nine of the Hawkeyes’ kills came in the first set, where the Black and Gold challenged the Huskers and battled to an 11-11 tie. But Nebraska then went on a 7-point run that — although broken up by a Nilges kill — gave the Huskers momentum to finish the set, 25-14.  

Head coach Sharon Dingman attributed Iowa’s loss, in part, to a loss of momentum.

"We simply had a tough time scoring points against a very good team," Dingman said in a release. "If we had stayed closer in the opening set, we may have had some confidence to compete better later in the match. But we had a tough go of it during one rotation, and we couldn’t recover."
