DJK reportedly signs with Canadian team

Former Iowa wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos has signed with a Canadian Football League team, the former Hawk posted online Tuesday.

"Montréal Alouettes. 3rd Downs are no longer an area of corncern [sic]," Johnson-Koulianos tweeted around 3 p.m.

Johnson-Koulianos, commonly referred to as DJK, confirmed the signing via text message on Tuesday evening.

Johnson-Koulianos is Iowa’s all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards. But he wasn’t selected in April’s NFL draft. He was arrested Dec. 7 on numerous drug charges and suspended by head coach Kirk Ferentz for the Insight Bowl on Dec. 28.

Six of the seven charges were later dropped; he pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana.

He’ll apparently join the Alouettes, who own the league’s best record at 10-5. Three games remain in the team’s 2011 season, and its final regular-season game is on Nov. 5. The Alouettes will host a playoff game on Nov. 13.
