Soccer’s Lacasse honored after strong weekend

Iowa freshman soccer player Cloé Lacasse was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after her offensive outbursts against George Washington and American University last weekend.

The native of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, scored twice in a 4-1 victory over George Washington on Sept. 2, including one on a penalty kick.

Lacasse scored another goal and added an assist against American University on Sunday.

The freshman now leads the team in scoring this season with six goals and two assists, for a total of 14 points.

Lacasse is the second Hawkeye to be honored as a conference Player of the Week this season. Senior goalkeeper Emily Moran was named Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 22.

She is the first Iowa newcomer to be named Freshman of the Week since Alyscha Mottershead received the award in September 2009. Lacasse is only the second freshman in school history to win the award.
