A recent poll of Iowa Republican caucus-goers shows candidates who support military actions against Libya have risen to the top of the 2012 field here.

Massachusetts Republican and 2008 let-down Mitt Romney leads the Public Policy Polling report released this week. Romney apparently has 21 percent of support in Iowa, leading former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s 15 percent and political outsider Herman Cain’s 15 percent. All three of them have sided with President Barack Obama in support of the U.S. war in Libya, although they’ve each criticized the president’s handling of the situation.

Meanwhile two candidates who have spoken out against the U.S. launching air strikes against Libyan forces have fallen to the bottom of the pack. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, gathered just 8 percent of caucus support in the June survey and Utah Republican Jon Huntsman earned almost no support.

U.S. Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minnesota, has also criticized Obama’s decision to get into the Libyan conflict. She falls in the middle of the pack, according to the latest survey. Bachmann earned 11 percent of respondent’s support, between Newt Gingrich’s 12 percent and fellow Minnesotan Tim Pawlenty’s 10 percent.
