The Iowa baseball team (16-25, 5-10 Big Ten) won against Minnesota on Sunday, 7-1, its sole victory of the three-game set in Minneapolis.
The Hawkeyes lost the first two games of the weekend matchup on April 29-30 at Target Field. They have dropped all five of their Big Ten series so far this season.
Right-hander Patrick Lala started on the mound for the third time this year Sunday, and the junior went 5 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out two. Senior Chett Zeise led the squad offensively, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
On April 29, left-hander Jarred Hippen took a tough-luck loss despite facing just one batter over the minimum. The Hawkeyes fell to the Gophers, 1-0, and Hippen threw a complete game one-hitter. The Gophers scored after a triple and sacrifice fly.
The Gophers (16-17, 8-7) defeated the Hawkeyes the following day in 12 innings, 5-4. Freshman outfielder Taylor Zeutenhorst went 2-for-2 with three RBIs.
Iowa returns to action this Wednesday for a nonconference game against Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at Banks Field.
