Baseball heads to Texas for annual spring roadtrip

Following a big four-game series in Starkville, Miss., the Iowa baseball team will embark on its annual spring trip to Texas.

The Hawkeyes (4-5) — winners of three-straight games — will play Texas Tech today and Saturday, then face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 13 and 14. All games will take place at Dan Law Field in Lubbock, Texas, home of Texas Tech.

Iowa will then travel to San Antonio to take on Notre Dame and Gonzaga as part of the Notre Dame Tournament on March 17-19.

Collegebaseballinsider.com named the Hawkeyes the Central Region Honorable Mention team of the week for their performance March 4-6. Iowa defeated SEC-foe Mississippi State twice and posted a 1-1 record against Georgia State.

The distinguished four-game set also garnered recognition for center fielder Trevor Willis. The senior batted .647 against last weekend’s opponents and was honored with the Big Ten Player of the Week award.

Junior left-hander Jarred Hippen went four innings and yielded just five hits and one run against Mississippi State on March 4. The Hawkeyes went on to win that game, 5-3. For the season, Hippen (1-1) has a 3.86 ERA in 14 innings.
