Six Hawkeyes competed in the NCAA last-chance meets at Notre Dame and Iowa State March 5, and two school records were set in the process.

But now, it’s a waiting game for two Hawkeyes on the Iowa women’s track and field team to see if they will qualify for the NCAA indoor track and field championships next weekend.

Distance runner junior McKenzie Melander, who competed in South Bend, Ind., ran the mile and placed third in the event with a time of 4:39.78, for a new personal best and school record.

Senior Bethany Praska traveled to Ames and competed in the 800 meters, taking third place. Praska also ran the event for a personal best and school record with a time of 2:05.36, beating the school mark she set earlier this year, Feb. 12, on the Iowa State track.

Because both of their times did not necessarily qualify them for the championships, Melander and Praska will find out today if they will receive bids for the NCAAs and compete in College Station, Texas, Friday and Saturday.
