Iowa baseball goes 3-1 in Starkville

The Iowa baseball team had a successful weekend in Starkville, Miss., going 3-1.

Head coach Jack Dahm’s squad recorded two victories against Mississippi State and went 1-1 against Georgia State.

Junior Trevor Willis led the Hawkeyes (4-5) in all four games, hitting .647 (11-for-17). The 6-3 center fielder also had three stolen bases.

After losing to Georgia State, 10-6, to open a double-header on March 4, the Hawkeyes won the nightcap against Mississippi State, 5-3. In that game, seniors Zach McCool and Tyson Blaser each had two hits. Zach Kenyon (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen.

On March 5, starter Nick Brown (2-0) paced Iowa in its second victory against the Bulldogs. The Hawkeyes tallied 12 hits in the 7-6 win.

Iowa won its third-straight game of the weekend on Sunday, as senior shortstop Kurt Lee hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Patrick Lala (1-0) picked up his first win in relief.

The Hawkeyes will return to the diamond Friday against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
