Supervisors want to reword property ordinance

Johnson County’s property ordinance needs "rewording."

Residents expressed concern over the Johnson County Board of Supervisors’ proposed property-maintenance ordinance during a public hearing Thursday night at the Johnson County Health and Human Services Building, 855 S. Dubuque St., said Supervisor Rod Sullivan.

Sullivan said the main issue was the current ordinance is "written a little unclear," and needs revisions.

The goal, Sullivan said, is to increase the construction, electrical, plumbing, and heating standards for buildings typically intended for residency.

Concern raised at the public hearing addressed issues of farm buildings such as barns and garages.
