Cedar Rapids football prep standout Christian French gave an oral commitment to Oregon Thursday — not the nearby Hawkeyes.
The 6-6, 229-pound athlete — who is listed as the top 2011 recruit in the state by Rivals.com — picked the Ducks over the likes of Iowa and Notre Dame. Rivals also slots him as the 96th-best prospect in the country.
French made the announcement at a news conference in the cafeteria of Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
