Men’s golf inks two recruits

The success head coach Mark Hankins has led the Iowa men’s golf team to is having its effect on the recruiting trail. Hankins has received national letters of intent from Joseph Winslow and Brian Bullington to play for the Hawkeyes next fall.

Winslow, a native of Overland Park, Kan., is currently listed by POLO Golf rankings as the 13th-ranked player in the class of 2011 and 21st overall in the country. In his last three seasons of junior competition, Winslow has recorded 35 top-five finishes and 16 individual titles. He led his high school, St. Thomas Aquinas, to 5A state championships in 2007 and 2008 and a third-place finish last year. Winslow is also a two-time individual state champion in 2008 and 2009 and was named the Kansas City Golf Association Player of the Year for 2010.

"I think it’s going to be a phenomenal time to be coming to the University of Iowa," Winslow said in a release. "After an enormous turnaround in the past few years, the Hawkeyes are a team on the rise, and I’m excited to help them compete for Big Ten titles."

Bullington is a native of Frankfurt, Ill., and is the top-ranked junior golfer in the state. Bullington has led Lincoln-Way East High School to three-straight conference team championships. He is currently ranked as the 79th player in the class of 2011 and 139th overall in the country by Golfweek.

Iowa won four-straight tournaments to close out its fall season and is ranked No. 9 in the country by both the Golfstat/Sagarin rankings and the Golf World/Nike Coaches’ Poll.
