Couple makes $1 million donation to football

An Iowa City couple has made a $1 million donation to the Hawkeye football program.

Jim and Darlene McCord made the gift to help fund renovations to some of Iowa’s football training facilities, including expanding the Jacobson Athletics Building and upgrading the indoor Bubble facility.

Athletics Director Gary Barta told the state Board of Regents in March that the football facilities were “bursting at the seams” and needed to be updated.

Jim McCord earned three degrees from the UI, including a master’s in counselor education and a doctorate in education.

The couple owns two Iowa-based companies — McCord Research, which conceives and produces products for skin care and wounds, and Pinnaclife Inc., which manufactures nutritional supplements.

The indoor club level of Kinnick Stadium’s Brechler Press Box will be named the McCord Club in honor of the couple’s contribution.
