Women’s tennis anticipates matchup with Wichita State

The Iowa women’s tennis team (8-2) will travel to San Diego to square off against Wichita State (4-6) in the Indian Wells Tournament on March 18.

The Hawkeyes will have an 11-day break before the match to recuperate after an exhausting weekend at home that ended in a thrilling, 4-3 victory over DePaul. The win put the team at 2-0 on the weekend.

Iowa also downed Missouri, 4-0.

The victory over DePaul was decided by the final singles match point, scored by sophomore Sonja Molnar, who earned Big Ten player of the Week honors for her outstanding performance.

Molnar will face Wichita State sophomore Lutfiana Budiharto, who was named Missouri Valley Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring. Budiharto is ranked 39th in the country with a 21-3 record in singles play and 11-7 record in doubles play this season.

The trip to California will mark the farthest Iowa has traveled from home this season.
