Hawkeyes sweep weekly Big Ten honors

Iowa swept this week’s Big Ten women’s basketball awards.

Junior Kachine Alexander was named Big Ten Player of the Week, and Jaime Printy was honored as Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Alexander played a big role in both of Iowa’s victories last week. She collected her 11th double-double of the season with 21 points and 16 rebounds in a 71-67 Hawkeye victory at Indiana on Feb. 11.

The Minneapolis native then recorded 24 points, six rebounds, and six assists in Iowa’s 77-67 win over Illinois on Sunday. Her 17 free throws made and 20 free throws attempted on Sunday also set school and Carver-Hawkeye Arena records.

Alexander has earned Player of the Week honors four times in her career — twice this season.

Printy has now claimed the Freshman of the Week honor four times this season.

She averaged 22.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in Iowa’s two victories last week to earn her most recent recognition.

Her 15.5 points per game leads all Big Ten freshmen and is seventh-best in the conference overall. A native of Marion, Printy also leads the conference in free-throw percentage, firing at an 88.7 percent clip from the charity stripe this season.

Iowa has won seven weekly Big Ten awards this year, the second-highest total. No. 7 Ohio State leads the conference with eight.
