Man arrested on drug charges

Iowa City police have arrested a man after he allegedly sold officers drugs on more than one occasion.

Nathan Howard, 36, 2109 Western Road, was charged with three counts of controlled-substance violation.

Officers allegedly conducted a controlled purchase of 2.3 grams of a substance purported to be heroin and 0.3 grams of a substance purported to crack cocaine on Sept. 22.

Reports said the purchase was made with the assistance of a confidential informant. The drugs were purchased for $150.

On Oct. 29, police reportedly conducted another controlled purchase from Howard. In that purchase, the confidential informant purchased $100 worth of heroin.

However, police reports said that the heroin was tested both times and was found to have no controlled substance.

Controlled-substance violation is a Class D felony and is generally punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $7,500.
