Iowa set to travel to Western Michigan

The Iowa men’s tennis team will hit the road for the first time this season when they head to Kalamazoo, Mich., to face Western Michigan. The matchup is set to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Iowa men’s tennis team improved its record to 5-0 (1-0) with a 4-3 victory over No. 39 Minnesota on Sunday in the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex.

The Hawkeyes secured the doubles point, giving them a 1-0 edge going into singles play. Iowa split the six singles matches, 3-3, with the Gophers, resulting in a 4-3 upset.

Western Michigan has a 6-3 record after double-header victories against Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne and Wisconsin-Green Bay on Feb. 14. Daniel King and Jonathan Raa lead the Broncos in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots.

“Western Michigan is a very good team and has been for years,” head coach Steve Houghton said. “We have passed a lot of tests already this year, but they have all been at home. This will be a new test for us, seeing how we will handle playing on the road.”
