Iowa City man charged after assault

An Iowa City man has been accused of being involved in an assault.

Steven Crittenden, 32, was charged Sunday with assault causing bodily injury.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, reports were filed regarding a man refusing to leave an apartment when asked by another male, then assaulting him.

Crittenden said he started a fight with the man because he was upset that the man had needles in close proximity to his daughter.

The man’s face suffered lacerations, bleeding, and pain, according to the complaint. His level of consciousness was also altered.

Crittenden said the man came at him, grabbed him by his throat, and put him on the ground.

Assault causing bodily injury is a serious misdemeanor.
