Iowa women’s track tunes up before final home meet

The Iowa women’s track team competed in two events this past weekend. While some tracksters traveled to Ames for the Iowa State Classic, others went to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational. No team scores were kept in either event.

In Fayetteville, sprinter Raven Moore placed 26th in the 200 meter run with a time of 24.31 seconds.

High-jumper Khanishah Williams leaped 5 feet, 5¾ inches en route to 11th place.

Closer to home in Ames, thrower Ashlyn Gulvas set a personal record in the weight throw with a toss of 61 feet, 6¼ inches en route to fourth place. The toss ranks second in Iowa track and field history.

Carisa Leacock recorded a mark of 39 feet, 11¼ inches in the triple jump, good enough for a third.

Three women placed in the top 15 of the 3,000 meters. Lisa Gordon placed ninth with a time of 9:47:63, Lauren Scott ran 10:00:05 to place 12th, and Kelsey Hart ran 10:15:83 to finish 13th.

Iowa will return home this weekend for the Iowa Invitational.
