Man arrested for marijuana possession during traffic stop

A man has been arrested after a police canine reportedly smelled marijuana during routine traffic stop.

Austin Rydsewsky, 19, Plainfield, Ill., was charged with possession/delivery of marijuana and OWI.

Iowa City police were taking their police canine out for fresh air during a traffic stop in which they stopped Rydsewsky’s vehicle. The canine had a positive alert on the passenger side of Rydsewsky’s vehicle. While searching the vehicle, officers allegedly located several marijuana stems, a scale, small bags with marijuana residue, and three containers that had other amounts of marijuana, the police complaint said. Rydsewsky admitted to smoking marijuana and taking Adderall.

Possession/delivery of marijuana is a Class-D felony. OWI is a serious misdemeanor.
