IC man charged after fight at downtown bar

An Iowa City man was charged after he was allegedly involved in an altercation at Joe’s Place.

Stevenson Adam Henke, 28, was charged Oct. 6 with assault causing bodily injury.

According to a complaint by Iowa City police, Henke was charged after officers responded to the downtown bar on Sept. 5 following a report of a man with a broken leg.

The complaint said the victim stated he had been punched several times and knocked down by Henke. The complaint said the victim suffered several small cuts and scrapes to his face — as well as a broken leg — from the alleged altercation. Three witnesses at the scene saw the assault, police said.

The complaint said the altercation resulted from an argument between the two men, who knew each other from high school.

The victim stated the altercation was over money Henke owed him for a broken car window, according to the complaint.

Assault causing bodily injury is a serious misdemeanor.
