The Iowa men’s tennis team announced Wednesday the signing of Dominic Patrick, a top-50 player in the class of 2012.
The senior at Campo Verde High of Gilbert, Ariz., is ranked as the No. 1 player in the Southwest, the 47th-ranked player in his class, and the 58th-best player overall. Patrick — who will join current junior Garret Dunn as Hawkeye tennis players hailing from Arizona — chose Iowa over Wake Forest, Michigan State, Louisville, and Marquette.
Patrick is listed as a five-star recruit, according to tennisrecruiting.net. He claimed the Division-II high-school state championship in his home state in May by defeating Carlos Bermudez, an Arizona commit.
Iowa head coach Steve Houghton said in a release that Patrick will be a great addition to the team.
"We are thrilled with Dominic’s decision to come to Iowa," Houghton said. "His rankings and tournament results reveal what a great junior player he has been, and we are just as excited about his character."
