C’ville man charged with domestic assault

A Coralville man was charged Wednesday with domestic-abuse assault without intent causing injury after he allegedly shoved his girlfriend into a car, causing her to hit her head on the vehicle.

According to a complaint by Iowa City Police, officers responded to Planned Parenthood, where 25-year old Samuel Vazquez and his girlfriend were located after Vazquez allegedly forced her into a car at a previous location and drove there. The female victim showed officers a bruise on her shin that allegedly happened after he kicked her several days earlier. According to the complaint, she complained of abrasions on her arm, where she said Vazquez had grabbed her. Vazquez allegedly denied hurting her.

The complaint said both Vazquez and the victim stated the other had mental issues and should seek anger-management counseling.

According to the complaint, Vazquez and his girlfriend live together and have a 1-year-old child together.
