Iowa City police arrested a local man last week after he allegedly threw numerous bags of marijuana out of an apartment window.

Christopher Strickland, 27, 1901 Broadway St. Apt 5, was charged July 14 with marijuana possession with intent to deliver and drug tax-stamp violation.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, officers were scanning “an area known for high crime and drug dealing” July 14 when they saw a few “suspicious subjects.”

The complaint said one subject saw the officers and walked away quickly, while another entered an apartment building. When officers went to go knock on the door they allegedly saw someone throwing a large bag of marijuana out the window.

Officers said the residents eventually came to the door and let them search the apartment. The suspect was soon identified as Strickland, who then admitted to throwing the marijuana out the window, but he said it wasn’t his marijuana. Officers reported recovering approximately 14 marijuana bags and other packaging materials that would be used for individual sale.
