The Iowa women’s tennis team dropped its final Big Ten regular-season match on Sunday, felling to Minnesota in Minneapolis. The 6-1 loss dropped the Hawkeyes’ record to 6-15 (3-7 Big Ten), while the Golden Gophers improved to 7-15 (3-7).

No. 101 singles player, junior Sonja Molnar, earned Iowa’s only point when she defeated Alexa Palen (6-1, 4-6, 6-1).

Head coach Katie Dougherty opted to split up the No. 35 doubles duo of Molnar and senior Jessica Young in order to strengthen the other doubles teams. However, all three Iowa doubles teams lost their matches. The No. 71 pair of Molnar and senior Lynne Poggensee-Wei fell (8-6) to Alessandra Ferrazzi and Doron Muravni. In the No. 2 spot, Young and freshmen Christina Harazin lost (8-6).

With two losses over the weekend — Iowa also lost a 4-3 decision at Wisconsin on April 23 — the Hawkeyes will be the No. 9 seed in the Big Ten championships, where they will meet eighth-seeded Minnesota at 9 a.m. Thursday. Michigan will host the tournament in Ann Arbor, and it will run through May 1.
