Hawkeyes rebound at Callaway Match Play

After an up-and-down Sunday for the Iowa men’s golf team, in which the Hawkeyes went 1-1 in match play at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship in Ball Ground, Ga., Monday was much more rewarding.

Iowa dominated third-seeded Alabama in the consolation bracket.

The Hawkeyes starting lineup of seniors Vince India and Brad Hopfinger, and juniors Chris Brant, Barrett Kelpin and Jed Dirksen won four out of five matches against the Tide to advance.

Brant was the only Iowa member who lost; he fell to Alabama’s Hunter Hamrick by two holes.

The tournament — which is being held at Hawks Ridge Golf Club — features 11 top-25 ranked teams out of the 16 that are competing.

Today, Iowa will face No. 8-seeded Georgia in a battle for ninth place.
