The women’s swimming and diving team is ready to move on after a disappointing finish at the Shamrock Invitational.

The two-day competition hosted by Notre Dame at Rolfs Aquatic Center in South Bend, Ind., came to an end Jan. 29, and the Hawkeyes fell to each of their opponents.

Notre Dame (264-104), Northwestern (274-93), and Ohio State (256-94) each defeated Iowa in an impressive fashion. The 46-point deficit (205-159) between Denver and the Hawkeyes was not as great, but the Pioneers still came out on top.

The competition’s final session began for the Hawkeyes with the 1,650 freestyle in which freshman Taylor Newgaard came in ninth with a time of 17:23.81. Senior Christine Mauro finished with a time of 17:24.33 just behind Newgaard for 10th.

One of Iowa’s strongest races came from junior Daniela Cubelic, who took sixth in the 200 back posting a time of 2:03.09.

Freshman Karolina Wartalowicz was another standout for the Hawkeyes, taking sixth in the 200 breast at 2:20.95.

The weekend concluded for the Hawkeyes with the 400 freestyle relay. Cubelic, senior Katarina Tour, senior Caitie Polz, and freshman Emily Hovren finished fourth, posting a time of 3:38.88 for Iowa’s best finish of the competition.
