Groove Theory performs at Blue Moose on Friday

Hip-hop duo Groove Theory will play at 9 p.m. Friday with Slip Silo and Koplant No at the Blue Moose Tap House, 211 Iowa Ave. Admission is $6.

Groove Theory formed in 1993 in New York City when producer and rapper Bryce Wilson approached singer-songwriter Amel Larrieux in hopes of starting a band. The R&B group gained its popularity in the ’90s with its Billboard Hot 100 hit "Tell Me," which reached No. 5 on the singles chart. The band landed three other tracks on the chart from its first two albums before its split in 1999.

In February, Larrieux and Wilson reunited, and the two are on tour.

Slip Silo is a four-member indie-pop band from Iowa City. The group plays progressive dance music infused with a techno twist.

Koplant No is a progressive jazz electronic rock ensemble from the Midwest. The band is often played on jazz radio stations in Iowa.
