Pfeiffer makes world team roster

USA Field Hockey announced on Monday that former Iowa player Lauren Pfeiffer has been named to the 2010 World Cup Qualifier roster.

Pfeiffer is set to join 17 other players for the 2010 AtaHolding Women’s World Cup Qualifier on March 26 through April 3 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

Pfeiffer, who serves as a volunteer assistant coach for the Hawkeyes, was selected twice as an All-American and twice as an All-Big Ten first-team member while playing at Iowa.

The back started all 83 games in her career, scoring 53 goals along the way to slot herself as the ninth-highest scorer in Hawkeye history.

“Lauren continues to represent the Hawkeyes well,” Iowa head coach Tracey Griesbaum said in a statement. “She has continually improved her game and that is also what it takes on the international level. We are very excited for Lauren and Team USA as they compete for a spot in the World Cup.”

Team USA will host five other national teams — Belgium, Canada, France, Korea, and Mexico. The winning team earns a spot in September’s BDO FIH 2010 Women’s World Cup in Rosario, Argentina.
