Commentary: Lindsay Lohan

It is truly an accomplishment for Lindsay Lohan to take one of the only commercials I actually pay attention to while watching TV and turn it into a lawsuit.

An E-Trade commercial, which originally aired during the Super Bowl, shows an adorable baby couple, speaking as adults who are resolving a relationship quarrel. The commercial ends with the baby girl making sure her boyfriend is being faithful. She asks “and that milk-aholic Lindsay wasn’t over?” as another baby girl pops out of the corner saying “milk-a-what?”

This campaign of commercials is hilarious. Babies, babies talking in adult voices, babies talking in adult voices about an electronic trading company. I’m not sure what could make it more entertaining, not to mention cute and clever. And until this week, no one had any complaints.

Leave it to Lohan to find a way to pop up in the media for yet another ridiculous reason. You would think she has smeared her reputation across the media more than the public could handle, but she is still going strong.

Either this ex-Mean Girl is paranoid (a common symptom of drug use) or completely self-involved (a common symptom of being Lindsay Lohan), because she is suing E-Trade for $100 million in regard to the use of her name in the advertisement.

According to EW.com, Lohan said “ ‘the milkaholic’ baby girl named Lindsay is modeled after her and improperly invoked her ‘likeness, name, characterization, and personality’ without permission, violating her right to privacy.”

Lindsay, just because a commercial says your name and “-aholic,” in the same sentence does not automatically mean someone is out to get you. It means you finally realize that you need to stop partying every night, and it is all thanks to a baby.

According to the the New York Post, “Lohan’s lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, said the actress has the same single-name recognition as Oprah or Madonna.” Apparently, in Lohan’s deluded head, she is the first thing that comes to the public’s mind at the drop of her name.

First of all, she does not have grounds to assume “Lindsay” is a household name. Not to mention, Lohan did not even come to my mind when watching the commercial. Maybe this E-Trade stint is in hopes that she will become infamous enough to be referred to by first name only.

Regardless of her intention, I can only hope that E-Trade doesn’t settle on such a flaky accusation. If Lohan is going to act like a baby, she shouldn’t make money off of one she thinks is impersonating her.
