Man faces 4 charges

Law-enforcement authorities have charged an Ames man with speeding, driving with a suspended license, and concealing a controlled substance in the Johnson County Jail.

Lamont Williams, 28, was charged Feb. 13 with possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility, operating a vehicle without consent, and having a suspended/canceled license.

He was initially stopped for reportedly driving 83 mph in a 70 mph zone.

After officers conducted a scan of his identification, they reportedly discovered his license had been suspended four times for nonpayment of state fines. Also, Williams’ vehicle was a rental car he had no permission to drive, according to police reports.

During a search of Williams at the jail, he reportedly denied having any illegal substances.

But a bag containing 14 pills testing positive for Ecstasy allegedly fell from his pocket. Williams attempted to deny they were his, according to police.

Possession of contraband in a correctional facility is a Class D felony generally punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of up to $7,500.
