Soccer slips by Drake

In its final nonconference game of the season, the Iowa soccer team pulled out a 1-0 win over Drake in Des Moines on Wednesday.

Senior midfielder Jackie Kaeding found the net for the second time this season to make the Bulldogs (4-5-3) the final in-state victim of a shutout defeat by the Hawkeyes (8-3). Iowa previously beat Iowa State (2-0) and Northern Iowa (3-0) this season.

The win also marks the sixth total shutout by the Hawkeyes in 2009.

Iowa hosts its first Big Ten game of the year on Oct. 4 when it entertains Wisconsin.

Head coach Ron Rainey was happy to get the road win and said his team will be ready to take on the Badgers.

“It was nice to get a shutout and a one goal win,” Rainey said. “There was a lot of possession change and we were tough defensively. Overall, we’re excited about the result and looking forward to the game on Sunday.”
