Man allegedly smuggled pot in anus

A North Liberty man was arrested Sunday after allegedly attempting to bring marijuana concealed inside his anus into the Johnson County Jail.

Kevin Edwards, 36, was charged with possession of contraband in a correctional facility, a Class D felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor.

Edwards was originally brought to the jail on assault charges.

A Class D felony is generally punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of as much as $7,500, while a serious misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in jail and a maximum $1,500 fine.
