Bluegrass group to go Yachting

Hailing from their home in Kansas, the members of Split Lip Rayfield will travel to Iowa City this weekend for a show in Iowa City.

The group will play at 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Yacht Club, 13 S. Linn St. Admission is $10.

Jeff Eaton on bass, Eric Mardis on banjo, and Wayne Gottstine on mandolin make up the ensemble. They describe their sound as a combination of bluegrass, country, and metal musical.

Recent shows in Texas and Arkansas prefaced the groups visit to Iowa City, and the members said they are in a constant state of touring and playing shows across the country.

"[The audience] can expect an aggressive acoustic bit, some shredding and harmony vocals," Gottstine said.

Split Lip Rayfield is a veteran of the Iowa City music scene, having played in the area for about 15 years. And the group has played a handful of shows at the Yacht Club previously.

At the show on Saturday, audience members will hear a combination of the band’s old hits and some fresh tunes that the group said they hope to include on a new record this year.
