The men’s swimming team continued its string of strong performances when it won the Shamrock Invitational in South Bend, Ind., for the second year in a row.
Iowa competed against Denver and Notre Dame, two teams they had beaten in the Hawkeye Invitational in December.
They beat host Notre Dame by a score of 194-174 and Denver by 229-129.
The 400 relay remained a strong suit for Iowa; the team of sophomore Jordan Huff and juniors Paul Gordon, Ryan Phelan, and Duncan Partridge surged to a first-place finish in a time of 2:29.18.
Freshman diver Osvel Molina competed in the 3-meter dive. He ended up with a score of 322.90 for fifth place and a new college-best score.
Sophomore Byron Butler had a strong meet, taking first place in the 200 back with a time of 1:47.34 and first in the 200 fly with a college-best time of 1:49.36.
“It was a gutsy, hard racing win for the men’s team,” head coach Marc Long said in a release.
