Homecoming harmony

Besides listening to the Wallflowers and cheering for the Hawkeyes at the game Saturday, Homecoming Weekend has plenty of other events to offer.

Hawkeye Feed

Noon- 2 p.m., Hubbard Park

Hot dogs, burgers, and chips will be served to the Hawkeye faithful. The first 250 students eat free.

Iowa Shout

Today, 6 p.m., Pentacrest

Iowa Shout consists of different student organizations competing against each other by performing a skit and dance with a theme relating to the Homecoming theme. The dance team and cheerleaders also make an appearance to pump people up for the Homecoming game on Saturday.

“It’s a misconception that [Iowa Shout] is only for greeks. It’s not,” said Aya Andejeski, the Iowa Shout director on Homecoming Council.

Parade

Friday, 5:45 p.m. downtown

Student organizations, greek life, local schools, and companies in the Iowa City area walk or have a float included in the Homecoming Parade. Homecoming Council Parade Director Bradley Martin said the number of float participations has dramatically increased this year, with 129 entries and 46 floats.

"Student organizations are always strapped for cash. This year we offered an incentive with Valley Decorating Co., which is set in California. It offers us a discount on floats to try to increase float incentive.”
