Muscatine man accused of stealing gas

A Muscatine man reportedly made a reckless getaway after allegedly stealing gasoline from a local Kum & Go.

Morris Nunn, 46, was charged Aug. 29 with eluding.

According to a Johnson County complaint, the defendant allegedly stole gas at Kum & Go, 323 E. Burlington St., before fleeing in a white Dodge Ram truck.

Shortly thereafter, he was met by a marked patrol car at the intersection of Keokuk Street and Highland Avenue.

Officers reportedly noticed Nunn driving recklessly, before he proceeded to head off the road through yards in order to elude the patrol car.

The defendant was last seen driving at high speeds on Dodge and Bowery Streets, the complaint said.

While continuing to elude officers, he ignored a stop sign, turned onto Bowery, and left the area.

The Iowa City police did not actively pursue a car chase with the defendant, the complaint said.

An investigation following the incident identified the Nunn as the suspect.

Eluding is an aggravated misdemeanor.
