Iowa City police investigate attack

Iowa City police are investigating an incident in which a man was allegedly beat up at the intersection of Dodge and Bowery Streets.

According to a press-release from the Iowa City police, an Iowa City resident was attacked while walking home around 2:15 a.m. Sunday. The 31-year-old man reported being beat up near Dodge and Bowery Streets by three white college-age males.

The man sustained bruises to his face, shoulders, and knee after being first “blind-sided” and then struck repeatedly with closed fists, the release said.

The release said the man told police he did nothing to provoke the attack and had nothing taken from him. He also chose not to be transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

All three attackers are reported as being white, 20-something males. The man reported as the “ring leader” is described as being 5-10, 150 to 180 pounds, with short hair, wearing a white T-shirt. The other two were described as being “tall and thin.”

Officers said they scanned the area but found no persons matching the descriptions. Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers are offering a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
