Violinist Park plays alongside Hanick

Violinist Tricia Park will perform a concert with pianist Conor Hanick at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Park, a member of the Maia Quartet, the University of Iowa’s string quartet-in-residence, is known for her virtuosity and richness of tone. The violinist had her first orchestral appearance at age 13, and she is now the concertmaster of Orchestra Iowa. With Hanick, an Iowa City native, she will perform Charles Ives’ Sonata No. 2, Maurice Ravel’s Violin Sonata, and Leon Kirchner’s Duo for Violin and Piano No. 2.

Ives’ sonata is a three-movement work that incorporates a number of American tunes, and it is noteworthy for its nostalgic quality. Ravel’s composition sees the French composer adapting elements from American blues music, and Kirchner’s piece was among the last written by the American composer.
