Soccer’s Grimm wins academic honor

Iowa midfielder Jade Grimm has been named to ESPN the Magazine‘s Academic All-District first team.

The sophomore integrative-physiology major has maintained a 3.79 grade-point average, well above the 3.30 needed to qualify for the honor. Grimm is now eligible for the Academic All-America team that will be announced later this month.

All-District honorees must participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s competitions and be at least a sophomore with a full calendar year at her or his institution. Grimm has started all 39 games in her Iowa career.

The Cedar Rapids native has been one of the bright spots on an otherwise quiet Iowa offense this year. She’s tied for second on the team in goals (four) and leads the Hawkeyes in both assists (four) and total points (14 — goals are worth two points and assists are worth one).

The Hawkeyes will conclude their season Saturday at home against Purdue. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
