Iowa City and Johnson County rescue crews recovered a body from the water at the Terry Trueblood park on the afternoon of May 31.
Iowa City Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Eric Nurnberg said the initial dispatch was at 3:44 p.m. after a bystander reported a swimmer disappearing under the water at Terry Trueblood.
“A bystander had seen someone swimming and then they disappeared, was our initial call,” Nurnberg said.
[As of 5:20 p.m.], the body recovered from the water has yet to be identified. The Iowa City police said they will give a statement once the body is identified.
Nurnberg also said a bystander who attempted to help the swimmer was transported by Johnson County to the hospital.
