After nearly four months on the market, the Linn Street building that once housed Goosetown Cafe has a new owner. The property sold Monday for $1.125 million, though the buyer and their plans for the space have not been announced.
The 4,000-square-foot building includes 20 dorm-style rooms and a couple of two-bedroom apartments on its upper floors, all of which are leased until July. The ground floor, previously home to Goosetown Cafe, is fully equipped for a restaurant and available for a new tenant.
Goosetown Cafe opened in 2018 but permanently closed in July 2023, as announced by owner Peter Kessler. Before that, the space housed The Motley Cow Café, a long-time Iowa City restaurant that operated for 18 years and closed in 2017.
The sale marks the next chapter for the building, but it remains unclear which business will take over the space.
